ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER QUALITY INDEX AROUND NAMAKKAL DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU, INDIA

Abstract

The People of Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu, mainly depend on ground water for drinking purpose. Due to the low quality of ground water, people are affected by innumerable diseases. The present study attempts to bring an acute awareness among the people about the quality of ground water by taking water samples from specific locations for analysis. The experiment analyses its various Physico-chemical and biological parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, TDS, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO4 2-, NO3 -, F-, BOD and COD etc., The results are compared with standards of WHO, USPH and ICMR. A systematic correlation and regression study showed significant linear relationship among different pairs of water quality parameters.
