SIMPLE KEY TO THE SPIROGYRA LINK 1820 FOUND IN MUMBAI REGION

Abstract

The genus Spirogyra is a universally found and is identified according to its spiral pattern of chloroplasts. The identification of species of Spirogyra is based on the conjugation pattern and reproductive stages. The present study has been conducted for identification of species of Spirogyra and doing so a simple key has been presented here. The species identification for Spirogyra is based on the following characteristics: the pattern of Chloroplast, Number and turns of chloroplasts, end wall pattern and size of the cell.
