M.N.JHA,A.N. PRASAD AND S.K. MISRA

Abstract

Successful placement of Nostoc hatei in the airspace of 55 to 75 days old rice leaf was achieved in vivo through rnicroinjection technique. The survival of introduced organism was for 14 days, though, some filaments were also observed on 21s` day. Nitrogenase activity in terms of ARA was not detected in leaf colonized by this species. The strain was shown to be capable of using glucose or sucrose as a sole source of carbon and energy in the dark.
