STUDIES ON THE PHYSICO-CHEMICAL AND MICROBIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CASSAVA STARCH INDUSTRY WASTEWATERC. KARTHIKEY PRADEEPKUMAR PUGAZHENDHP AND P.L. SABAKATHINAMAbstract The cassava starch industry is one of the major agro-based industries contributing significantly to the national income. This work deals with the characteristics of the wastewater discharged from these industries. The results presented here are the physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of the wastewater samples collected from the large scale and the small-scale factories located in Tamilnadu. The analysis indicates the high level of Chernical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand too five days (1300), suspended solids and a consortium of microorganisms namely bacteria, fungi, yeast and actinomycetes in the wastewater.
