IN VITRO CULTURE OF VITIS QUADRANGULARIS L. (SYN. CISSUS QUANDRANGULARIS L.) - A MEDICINAL PLANTDEBABRAT BAISHYA AND S. SARMAAbstract Nodal segments and leaf explants were inoculated on Murashinge and Skoog's basal medium (MS) containing 3% sucrose (wt vol), 0.8% agar and various concentration of 6-Benzyl-aminopurine (BAP; 0.5 -7.0 mg11), Kinetin (Kn; 0.05 - 5.0 mg1-1, Indole 3-acetic acid (IAA; 0.05 - 5.0 kg11), Napthalene acetic acid (NAA; 0.2-5.0 mg1-1) 2,4 Dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4 - D; 05 - 5.0 mgl-1) in various combinations. The combined effect of Kinetin & IAA and Kinetin and NAA were favourable for callus induction. BAP (7.0 mg I-1) showed induction of callus from the leaf explants. The best combination was Kinetin and IAA with the concentration of Kn (1.0 mg1-') and IAA (4.0 mg1-1). Addition of casein hydrolysate (400 mg1-') in the media induced callus from nodal and leaf explants and increased the growth of callus, while addition of coconut milk (5%) was not so effective in callus growth.
