M. THARAKESHWARI AND SHOBHA JAGANNATH

Abstract

In the present investigation impact of distillery effluent on biochemical parameters in Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp was studied. The physico chemical analysis of distillery effluent showed very high values of total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, COD and BOD. The effluent also showed various nutrient contents like N P K Ca Mg. The chlorophyll, protein and carbohydrate content of V. unguiculata were adversely affected with the higher effluent concentration. There was in increase in protein and carbohydrate content at 25% effluent concentration when compared to other concentrations. It is suggested that the distillery effluent after proper dilution can be used to irrigate V. unguiculata crop plant.
