DESCRIPTION OF TWO NEW PROTOZOAN SPECIES ENTODINIUM BICONVEXLIM SP. NO V. AND ENTODINILIM FLAGI SP. NOV. FROM RUMEN OF INDIAN CATTLE (BOS INDICLIS)

Abstract

Rumen fluid samples were observed to study the taxonomy of rumen ciliate protozoa belonging to genus Entodinium from the adult Indian cattle. (Bos indicus). The present paper deals with the morphology of two new species Entodinium biconvexum and Entodini urn flagi. Their body dimensions, frequency distribution and variation of characters are recorded. Critical comments are made on their spcific indentity E. biconvexum is characterized by having oval body, elongated wedge shaped macronucleus. Presence of two triangular unequal length caudal lobes; E. flagi is characterized by its elongated body, presence of single broad cuticular fold running along the main body axis and the triangular pointed unequal length caudal lobes.
