MOBILITY OF APPLIED CADMIUM IN WETLANDS AS INFLUENCED BY FARMYARD MANUREUSHA MATHEW AND ALICE ABRAHAMAbstract The present investigation quantifies the distribution of topically applied cadmium in different depths of columns of three types of wetland soils in Kerala, India and in their leachate. The influence of farmyard manure in modifying the distribution of cadmium in the soil layers and in the leachate was also studied. Retention of cadmium was much higher in the upper layers and it was more in the presence of farmyard manure than without it. Leaching loss of cadmium from the soil columns treated with and without farmyard ranged from 17 to 37 and 14 to 28 per cent respectively.
