NODULATION AND SURVIVAL OF ACID TOLERANT PEA RHIZOBIA IN ACID SOILS

K. MANDAL, SANJAY KUMAR AND K. YADAV

Abstract

Two acid and related stress tolerant pea rhizobia isolates (BRP, and BRP3) incorporated with streptomycin resistance marker (str4) were evaluated under green house condition for their survival (in rhizosphere), adhesion (on rhizosphere), effective nodulation and dry matter production by homologous host in acid soils of pH 4.6 and 5.5. A better survival of the isolates was noticed at pH 5.5. Isolate BRP, was superior in respect of better survival in the rhizosphere, increase adhesion on roots and inducing effective nodulation and dry matter yield by the homologous hosts.
