VERMITECH - AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALLW.P. S. INDIRABAI, P.D AISY AND VIMALA JAMESAbstract Vermitech involving culture of earthworm as well as bioconversion of solid organic waste into ecofriendly vermicompost provides a wider range of opportunity for all people. Work carried out at the preliminary level in our laboratory revealed that there is an increase in the number and weight of anecic earthworm, Lampito mauritii, locally available in the campus. The quality of verrni compost also depends on the solid waste - organic raw materials used for bioconversion. Soil enriched with vermicompost showed flowering earlier than that without vermicompost. Vermitech is simple, inexpensive method which enables recycling of elements for sustainable environment. People at any age group could do this as a hobby.
