DOXORUBICIN AND ETOPOSIDE INDUCED CHANGES ON GSH OF HEPATIC, RENTAL AND CARDIAC TISSUES OF MALE RATS

SAID M.R. KEWEDAR AND M. H. FULEKAR

Abstract

In the present study, the anticancer drug Doxorubicin induced to the male albino rats at the rate of 1.0 mg/ kg body weight, thrice a week, for 52 days with a total 18 doses. Similarly, Etoposide was induced separately to another set of rats at the rate of 1 mg/kg/day for Sweeks with a total of 52 doses. The mode of administration of both the anticancer drugs kept intraperitonially. The body weight of the rats was found significantly decreasing in the anticancer drugs induced rats. The organs weight such as liver, kidney, and heart were also measured. The effect of anticancer drugs on the enzyme Glutathione (GSH) has been studied .The enzyme level was found decreasing in kidney for both of the anticancer drugs. However in case of liver and heart increase in enzyme activity was observed. The research finding shows that significant alteration in GSH level in kidney tissues indicates oxidative stress induced by the drugs. While increasing GSH level reduces the stress on the tissue and interorgan transport of GSH.
