LANGMUIR ADSORPTION ISOTHERM STUDIES OF PONGAMIA PINNATA BARK ON UPTAKE OF HEAVY METALS FROM INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENTSE. PADMINI AND S. SRIDHARAbstract Industrial effluents are potential hazards for our environment because once they are released into the environment they get accumulated into the soil and water resources. The presence of heavy metal in the industrial effluent is a major concern because of their bioaccumulating capacity threatening human life and the environment. Conventional process of metal removal using activated carbon, chemical resins are proved to be expensive and not eco-friendly. In this study, the emphasis is on the removal of Zn and Mn from synthetic and industrial wastewater has been investigated by using pongamia pinnata bark as natural biosorbents. Pongamia pinnata bark is found to have good sorption capacity for Zn++ and Mn'+ ions from synthetic wastewater and industrial effluent. Studies indicate that the sorption of zinc and manganese increased with the pH and contact time. The data fit well into adsorption isotherm.
