RENUGADEVI ARASAPPAN AND T. THANGARAJ

Abstract

The extract of the plants, Acalypha indica, Andrographis alata, Samanea saman, Strychnos nux-vomica and Synadenium grandi extracted through Petroleum ether (PE) and Ethyl acetate (EA) were used to test the effect on the developmental stages of the mosquito, Culex quinquefascialus. The fractions obtained through the silica gel were tested on the first instar larvae. Among the plants tested, Andrographis alata and Samanea saman showed effect on the development of C. quinquefascialus. The LC 50 values of these plants ranged from 0.0197 mg/ml to 20.87 mg/mL. During the treatment of the extracts malformations in the developmental stages were noticed. I instar larval stages was found more susceptible than the other stages such as egg, IV instar and pupa.
