APPLICATION OF SLURRY ATOMIZATION METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF LEAD, CADMIUM, AND NICKEL IN AIRBORNE PARTICULARE MATTERS.M. TALEBI.M.MALEKIHA, AND F. TAHERIAbstract An easy, rapid and sensitive procedure based on slurry preparation as sample preparation was developed for sensitive analysis of lead, cadmium and nickel in ambient aerosols by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. The slurry preparation was performed adding a mixture of HF and 1:1 (v/v) on the sample and performing sonication. The parameters affecting the sensitivity of the method for the determination of lead, cadmium, and nickel were investigated and optimized. The method was applied to analysis of Pb, Cd and Ni in standard reference material (SRM-1648), and also airborne particulate matter collected from the atmosphere of the city of Isfahan. The results obtained from the analysis of the both samples showed that the proposed method is quite reliable for the determination of trace lead, cadmium, and nickel. The proposed method was then applied to the continuous determination of Pb, Cd, and Ni associated with airborne particulate matter in urban area.
