ALTERATION IN BODY FAT CONSEQUENT TO SIXTEEN WEEKS OF ISOMETRIC EXERCISE

Abstract

Obesity is a major public health problem in our country particulaly in females. This study determined the effect of isometric exercise on different parameters. Forty two female subjects were regularly exercising for minimum duration of 16 weeks (4 months) The subjects were exercising on machines like rolling machine, leg pressure machine etc. The different parameters studied were height, weight, total body fat, percentage body fat, body mass index and waist-hip ratio. All parameters were measured before and after 16 weeks of exercise. It was observed that, weight, total body fat, percentage body fat and body mass index, WHR decreased after 16 weeks of exercise. Our study concludes that short term excrcise intervention can induce favourable changes in body fat composition.
