TRANSGENIC INDICA RICE EXPRESSING CO DON - MODIFIED CRY1AC GENE CONFER RESISTANCE AGAINST YELLOW STEM BORER LARVAE (SC1RPOPHAGA INCERTULAS)N. ANOOP, V. MURUGIAH, P. K. SATHEESHKUMAR AND ADITYA K. GUPTAAbstract A codon-modified cryl Ac gene was introduced in indica rice cv IR-50 by particle bombardment. T ransgene integration was confirmed by Southern analysis and its expression by Northern and Western analysis. In T2 generation, the level of cryl Ac protein accumulated varied between 0.017% to 0.03 % of total soluble protein in leaves and 0.012 to 0.023 % total soluble proteins in stem. Whole plant insert bioassay using L2 larvae of Yellow stern borer performed revealed an insect mortality of 80% in plants at their booting stage, while 00% mortality was observed with plants at their tillering stage.
