EVALUATION OF COST EFFECTIVE SUBSTRATE FOR ENHANCEMENT OF PROTEASE PRODUCTION BY ASPERIGILLUS NIGERSWAPNA REDDY, USHA RA JESHWARI, LALITHA NARAYANAN1AND J. SARADAAbstract Microbial proteases are one of the three largest groups of industrially important enzymes holding a 600/0 share in the enzyme market. They find an extensive use in the food, leather, detergent & pharmaceutical industries. For the commercial production of proteases, species of Asperigillus such as Aspertgillus Inger, Asperigillus oryzae and Asperigillusflaznts are usually employed. Present work deals with the evaluation of various cost effective substrates like cereal flours and oil cakes in enhancing the protease yield in a batch fermentation processes using Asperigillus niger (NCIM 588) strain. Combination of Jowar flour with the oil cakes like Ground nut and Coconut cake could enhance the yield three fold.
