Abstract

The present study was carried out to observe the influence of integrated application of biofertilizers (Rhizobium juponicum and leaf' materials of Eichhornla crassipes as green manure), in Carbofuran (insecticide) treated soil, on growth and productivity of blackgram (Pliascolus mungo Roxb) var.T 9. The data obtained (on 6011' day after seed sowing) from this study, clearly revealed that the Carbofuran soil treatment inhibit the germination, growth and productivity of blackgram. Addition of biofertilizers either alone or in combination in insecticide treated soil, promotes the seed germination, growth and productivity of blackgram considerably. Soil treated with R. japonicum and carbofuran favours maximum seedling vigour index (4369), tolerance index (9 1 %), seed production (5.98 nos./ pod and 77.67 nos./ pl) and weight of seed (0.5 g/pod) and reduced the phytotoxicity level (8.66%) in blackgram seedlings as compared to carbofuran treated soil. Similarly, carbofuran treated soil amended with green manure promoted the blackgram seed germination (80.75%), biomass production (51 .48 g/pl - fresh weight, 11.5 g/pl - dry weight). On the other hand, integrated application of BK+GM in carbofuran treated soil increased the development of lateral roots ( 1 8.05 nos./p1), number of (lowers (14.83 nos./p1) and pods (13.90 nos./ pl) in blackgram seedlings than in soil treated with insecticide alone. However, the biolertilizers have no or adverse effect on seedling growth, number of root nodules and leaf area index of blackgram seedlings. The changes in biochemical contents (Chlorophyll, proteins, free amino acids) of blackgram due to soil treatment with insecticide. BF and GM either alone or in combination are not significant in general.
