Abstract

Entanweba histolytica, the causative agent of amoebiasis, is one of the major contagious diseases in the world. In India, amoebiasis is prevalent in all parts of the country. Over growth of population and low level of sanitary conditions and personal hygiene in urban and rural people have been mainly responsible for the spread of amoebiasis in various age groups living in and around Eluru were included. Clinical investigations were made by direct microscopic examination of the stool and culture (Parija,1983). Stool test revealed that 80% of children (2-9 years of age) had infected with E. histolytica and 20% with E. coli. During the survey no samples from any age group showed mixed infection with these parasites. It has been shown that children are at increased risk of arrioebiasis as reported by Subash Chandra Parija (2002).
