Abstract

Conservation, enhancement and sustainable utilization of plant resources are recognized as one of the vital segment in the natural resources mangament. Cultivation of medicinally important plants is, therefore, gaining significance to meet the ever-growing demand in herbal drug market. This paper deals with the experience of an effort of promoting conservation and cultivation of some selected medicinal plants with people's participation in Belthnagady tq. in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka. The lessons from this standardization of cultivation protocols and its transfer to the different stakeholders through effective delivery mechanisms could, thus, give further inputs for Policy framing process in In-situ and Ex-situ conservation.
