CONSERVATION NEEDS FOR A FRESHWATER SPINY EEL. MASTAEEMBALUS ARMATUS FROM MARATHWADA REGION OF MAHARASHTRA

Abstract

Lotic and lentic ecosystems, Yeladari Siddheshwar, Vishnupuri (Shankar Sagar), Niwli, Iviajalgaon are major and minor irrigation reservoires. Th available aquatic resources are rich in lcthyobiodiversity. From manny threatened and rare Fish species of Marathwada, the spiney ell namely Mastacembalus arrnatus (cuv-val) has good market value as nutritious fish, hence it is vigorously from the habitat without considering its breeding season, catch size, mesh size of the net, breeding habit, fecundity etc.
