HYPO_OSMOTIC SPERM SWELLING AS A MEMBRANE INTEGRITY TEST OF BOAR SPERMATOZOA FOLLOWING PRESERVATION WITH IS EXTENDER AT 18° C

Abstract

Three each of Hampshire and cross-bred boar (Hampshire X Khasi local) have been taken for this study. immediately after collection of semen, dilution was made (1:3) with BTS extender and stored at 18° C and evaluated for Hypo-Osmotic sperm swelling test (HOSST) for every stipulated hours viz 0, 24, 48 and 72 for Hampshire the values obtained were 55.47±0.21, 50.94±0.21, 46.17±0.21 and 42.53±0.21% at 0. 24,48 and 72 hours respectively and that for Cross-bred were 53.75±0.24, 47.14±0,24. 44.42±0.24 and 39.57±0.24%. There was significance difference (p<0.05) between hours and within breed. However, no difference noticed between breed except at 24 and 72 hours.
