ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER QUALITY OF NOYYAL RIVER BASIN, TAMILNADU, INDIA

Abstract

The applications of groundwater in various fields such as agriculture, domestic and industries depends on its quality. The physical, chemical and biological parameters have to be studied to establish quality criteria of the groundwater. To assess the quality along the Noyyal River basin (Perur tank to Sulur tank), the chemical analysis for different parameters like pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Electrical Conductivity, Total Hardness, alkalinity, Cl-, Na+, K+, SO,', NO,-, Cal* and Me was carried out. The pollution level of the study area was investigated by using the values of TDS, EC, TH, NO and 5042-. The investigation indicated that the study area is polluted due to intensive agricultural and industrial activities.
