Abstract

The agronomic investigation entitled "Studies of integrated nutrient and weed management for growth and yield of Pearlmillet (Pennisetum glaucrini L.)" was undertaken during kharif season 2003 on the Farm of Agronomy Department, Mahatma Pilule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri. The field experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replicates and sixteen treatments combinations formed due to fertilizer management (main treatments) viz., (i) 100 RDF (F1) (ii) 50 % RDF + 50 % N through FYM (F,) (iii) 50 % RDF + Biofertilizer (F.,), (iv) 50 %, RDF + 50 % N through FYlvl + Biofertilizer, Weed Management (Sub treatment) viz., (i) Weedy check (W,), (2) Weed free (W), (3) Atrazine (PE) @ 1 kg a.i. ha-1 (W3), (4) Atrazine (PE) @ 0.50 kg a.i. ha-1 + Hand weeding at 30 DAS. The soil of experiment field was clay in texture, low in available nitrogen, medium in available phosphorus and high in available potassium while moderately alkaline (pH 8.15). The yield attributing characters such as grain weight per earhead (19.26 g) and test weight (15.70 g) were higher in application of 50 % RDF + 50 % N through FYM + Biofertilizer and weed free t.Teatment of weed managements consequently, the grain and straw yields were maximum i.e. 31.01 q he and 46.51 q ha.' respectively. For kharrf pearlmillet, application of 50 % N through FYM + Biofertilizer with weed free check weed control practice would be the best proposition for higher productivity.
