NEUTROPHILIA IN IMMUNE RESPONSE TO ANCYLOSTOMA CANINUM LARVAE IN MICE

M. Nirmala Devi and V.V. Vardhani

Abstract

The present work pertains to understand the neutrophil changes in the circulating blood and intestine of female swiss albino mice. Experimental mice were infected oralIy with 500(group A). I 000(group B) and 2000(group C) larvae of Ancylostoma caninum; a single group (D) was kept as uninfected control for comparison. The sigrifficant increase of circulating and intestinal neutophils from day I to 30 in all the experimental groups in comparison with controls indicates that the cell increase was influenced by the ancylostomiasis. Comparatively a marked increase of circulating (from day I to 9) and intestinal (on day 9) neutrophils was found in mice infected with 2000 larvae.
