SURVEY OF THE STATUS OF FISHERIES IN BISALPUR RESERVOIR, RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Abstract

To improve the fish production in Bilaspur reservoir a preliminary study was carried out to identify the fish fauna.A survey had also been made regarding fish production and seed production along with the market values of these fishes. 44 species belonging to 14 families were identified. Few species were found to be rare while some were abundant and common in the reservoir. Fish production was maximum during the year 2002-2003 while maximum number of carp seeds were introduced during the year 2003-2004.To improve fish production predatory fishes such as cat fishes should also be introduced along with carps only when the fingerling grow larger in size.
