COMPOSITIONAL OPTIMIZATION OF BLEACHING POWDER AND IODINE TINCTURE FOR THE TREATMENT OF WATER BY RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGYV. Kumar, H.K. Sharma. and K. PrasadAbstract The study pertaining to the compositional optimization of bleaching powder and iodine tincture for the treatment of microbial contamination in water by the response surface methodology was undertaken. The results indicated that the treatment of water from the various combinations, as per the designed experiments through Response Surface Methodology for the different parameters, exhibited standard plate count (SPC) in the range of 0 to 10 and I to 35 per mt_ with bleaching powder and iodine tincture, respectively. The coliform count in all the water samples after treatment with the bleaching powder or iodine tincture was found nil. Bleaching powder at the level of 4.8 ppm and iodine tincture 0.89ppm for I 8.07 minutes were found as the optimum conditions for the treatment of watenTemperature did not have any effect on the standard platecount or coliform count.
