Abstract

Production of antileukemic enzyme L-asparaginase by four anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria isolated from Leather industry effluents was investigated and discussed in this paper. Rps.rutila was a good producer of asparaginase, followed by Rb.capsulatus, Rsp.rubruni and Rps.acidophila. No positive correlation between asparaginase activity and biomass production could be obtained. Degree of asparaginase production varied with the bacterium and incubation period.
