ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN THE UPPER LAKE, BHOPAL (M.P.) PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTIONS

Abstract

The area comes under latitude 23°10' - 23° 20' and Longitude 77' 15' - 77° 25' in the survey of India Toposheet No. 55E/7, 52E/8 and 55E/4. Bhopal is the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, situated in the centre of the country and is also known by the name 'City of Lakes' and is a source of attraction due to its natural lakes situated at an altitude of 500 m. above the mean seal Level. The upper lake having an area of 18 Sq km is the main source of drinking water to the city. However, it is getting polluted severaly and some measures are suggested to arrest the further water quality degradation.
