P.S. Harikumar, K. Madhavan, and A.B. Khan

Abstract

Groundwater samples collected from Thrissur, Palakkad and Alappuzha Districts of Kerala State were analyzed for Fluoride content. The secondary data collected indicated that these districts are most susceptible to drinking water quality problems due to excess fluoride. A survey of Dental fluorosis conducted among the primary school children of Alappuzha district and it was observed that a total number of 152 surveyed school children were affected with Dental Fluorosis. The seasonal comparison of Fluoride in different pumping wells of Alappuzha town indicates that the Fluoride concentration is between 1.0-1.50 mg/I and above in 30% of wells in monsoon and 44% during summer period.
