IMPACT OF DEPOILUTED ELECTROPLATING EFFLUENTS ON THE GROWTH AND PRODUCFLVTY OF SELECTED CROPS

Rekha R. Warner and S. Sarola Avinashilingam

Abstract

The electroplating effluents, rich in inorganic matter was subjected to treatment with water hyacinth for a period of 8 days and used for irrigation of amaranthus, fenugreek and coriander. The lengths of both roots and shoots of the three plants increased by about 20% due to irrigation with the effluent while fresh and dry weights did not show significant variations. The chlorophyll content and total protein levels were comparatively higher in all the three plants over the control.
