RECYCLING OF TANNERY EFFLUENT FOR GROWING SELECTED TREE SPECIES

M.R. Rajan and S. Rukmani

Abstract

The present study deals with recycling of tannery effluent for growing selected salinity resistant non-edible tree species such as Albizzia lebbeck, Acacia nilotica, Pterocarpus marsupium, Casuarina equisetifolia and Eucalyptus, globulus for a period of 90 days. The physico-chemical characteristics of treated effluent was higher than that of ISI standards of surface irrigation or agriculture. All the tree species grew well in pots irrigated with treated tannery effluent expcept Pterocarpus marsupiium. It is inferred from the results that the treated tannery effluent can be used for growing salinity resistant non-edible tree species.
