PHOSPHATE SOLUBILISING ASPERGILLI ACTIVITY IN ELITE BANANA RHIZOSPHERESP. Pradhan, R. Chaudhari, N.V. Phirke, S.B. Chincholkar and R.M. KothariAbstract In order to isolate highly efficient phosphate solubilising microbe, several rhizospheric soil samples from elite banana were screened, isolated and characterised, out of which six isolates of Aspergillus were selected for comparison with standard A. awamorri NCIM I I 88 and commercial A. awamorii. On the basis of in vitro maximum P solubilisation while maintaining pH conducive to faster growth, isolate D was found to be most efficient. All the isolates afforded more P solubilisation compared to standard and commercial Aspergilli. Observed eliteness of banana is traced due to presence of efficient phosphate solubilising Aspergilli, as all the cultural practices were identical.
