PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF BOTTOM SEDIMENTS OF LACUSTRINE ',ABITATS OF JAMMU I. LAKE SURINSAR

V.K. Anand and Suman Sharma

Abstract

The present paper deals with the temporal and special trends of various physico-chemical characteristics of the bottom sediment of littoral zone of one of the subtropical, alkaline and hard water lacustrine habitat-Lake Surinsar of Jammu. Seasonal fluctuations in various physico-chemical parameters, at fixed research stations, have been analysed for two way AN OVA. It revealed that various fractions of the sediment texture (sand, silt, clay and loam), organic carbon, organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus are the important factors that control the mixed but homogeneous distribution of submerged macrophytes, their productivity and trophic status of the lake. Coefficient of correlation among various parameters have also been derived and discussed to understand their interrelationships.
