Abstract

The present paper is an attempt to investigate the biodiversity of zooplankton community in a seasonal, tropical pond near Sivakasi. The various indices for species richness, evenness and diversity have been worked out. Presence of 12 species of zooplankton belonging to Rotifera, Cladocera and Copepoda gives an unambiguous index of species richness (S).The values of Margalef index (RI) and Menhinick index (R2) are lesser when S is at its minimum. The range of evenness indices between 0.73 and 1.1 2 indicates a more or less even distribution of zooplankton community in this pond. The diversity indices point out the representation of several species and the dynamic nature of this ecosystem.
