A STUDY ON PHYSICO CHERNICAL PARAMETERS OF TUNGABHADRA RIVER AT KOODLI

Abstract

A study was undertaken to assess the water quality of Tungabhadra River at Koodli, where the rivers Tunga and Bhoc1ra meet to become the river Tungabhadra. The water samples were collected at four different sites, before and after the confluence zone of the rivers Tunga and Bhadra.Temporo-spatial variations in physico-chemical parameters including Dissolved oxygen, Chloride, BOD, Iron, Phosphate, Ammonia-nitrogen, and Silica were analyzed for six months.The results thus obtained show that the water quality of the river Bhadra is not as good as the water quality of the river Tunga, because of the presence of The Mysore Paper Mills Limited and The Vishweshwaraiah Iron and Steel Industries Limited, on the bank of this river.
