Abstract

Solar powered photo catalytic processes would be ideally suited for the treatment of water in developing nations where water shortage is a severe problem as it gives almost 100% colour removal without formation of sludge/toxic material as the end product. Comparison of performance of T02, ZnO, H202 and their combination has been done for removal of DY- I 2 from its solution. The effect of process variables such as irradiation time, pH, concentration of dye solution, catalyst dose and effect of catalyst immobilization have been studied. Result shows that low pH, low concentration of dye favour the removal of dye from its solution. The decolourization kinetics is found to be pseudo first order with respect to dye concentration. The catalyst coated over iron can be easily and economically recovered from suspension by an external magnetic field with minimum loss.
