EFFECT OF LEAD ON ACQUIRED IMMUNITY OF MICE TO INFECTION WITH ANCYLOSTOMA CANINURN

D. Nirmala and V.V. Vardhani

Abstract

Experiments were performed with mice to determine the effect of lead on acquired immunity to Ancylostoma caninum larvae. Under the experimental conditions, it was demonstrated that the chemical had a striking effect on immunity acquired from one and/or two stimulating infections. All lead treated animals retained significant number of larvae than the controls; greatest larval burden was shown by the mice treated with lead both before and after the stimulating infections.
