Abstract

Aquaculture has been identified as prime thrust area among all the thrust areas as it has created substantial employment opportunities and good prospects for export earnings. It is now recognized that shrimp farming and aquaculture cause serious environmental degradation and social disruption because of irregular and irresponsible practices of some entrepreneurs. But it is making havoc to natural resources such as soil and water resources. Aquaculture is extensively spread all along the Nellore coast. The merits and demerits of aquaculture have been evaluated with respect to positive and negative impact. Finally suggestions were made to minimize the negative impact
