A NOTE ON FIRST RECORD OF MARINE FUNGUS AMYLOCARPUS ENCEPHALOIDES N TROPICSK. Prasannarai and K.R. SridharAbstract While examining the wood inhabiting marine fungi of 13 intertidal habitats of west coast of India, Amylocarpus encephaloides Currey, a hitherto unknown fungus in tropics was recovered from two locations. This fungus was confined to wood accumulated at the high tide zones of sandy and rocky shores. Its morphological features corroborate with the descriptions given by Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer (1979). Possibly Amylocarpus encephaloides transported from temperate habitats or it may consist of temperature-dependent physiological races adapted to temperate and tropical habitats.
