A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILUR POND NEAR HORMAN, DAVANGERE DIST. KARNATAKASuresha, H.S.R.K. Patil, G. Ramadas K. and E.T. PuttaiahAbstract This paper deals with the analysis of Chilur pond water for physico-chemical and planktonic composition.The results of physicochemical analysis revealed that water is polluted as it posses high amount of B.O.D. Phosphates, total nitrogen, free CO2. A total of 57 species belonging to 30 genera of phytoplanktons were recorded, of which Chlorophycean and Diatoms were found to be dominant among four classes. Eleven Zooplanktons and six macrophytes were identified.
