R.K. Das, V. Kumar and R.S. Singh

Abstract

The effect of flyash pond effluent on seed germination of two varieties of legumes viz. Pisum sativum and Vick) sativa has been studied using the effluent concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Shoot elongation and root elongation have been measure for one week. The data obtained on shoot elongation and root elongation have been utilized for computation of growth index and percent phytotoxiciry. The investigation revealed that use of 50% and 25% concentrated effluent leads to enhanced growth in V. Sotiva and P. sativum. The treatment of effluent beyond 50% shows lower rate of plant growth index and higher rate of phytotoxicity. Therefore, there is need to dilute the ashpond effluent for preventing the soil contamination and better plant growth.
