STUDY OF HEAVY METALS IN SABARMATI RIVER WATER (GANDHINAGAR TO AHMEDABAD), GUJARAT)

Abstract

Sabarmati river is an important river for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar cities of India.The present study measures the pollution level of river water at different localities. Water samples were collected and analysed for the presence of Iron. Manganese, Zinc, Lead and Copper for three seasons of the year 2005-2006.The results values are higher than the desirable limits ofWHO, BIS and ICMR but within the permissible limits.Vadaj and Sardar bridge are more polluted due to the effluents and city sewage and not suitable for drinking as well as irrigation.
