AIR POLLUTANT CONCENTRATIONS DOWNWIND OF A PHOSPHATE FERTILIZER FACTORY

J. Pandey and G. Nagda

Abstract

This study reports the ambient air concentrations of fluoride, sulphur dioxide and particulate matter (TSP) downwind of a phosphate fertilizer factory. The study area was divided into four zones a rd three sites were selected in each zone. Air monitoring was done at each site with respect to HF, SO2 and total suspended particulates (TSP). The results indicated that the concentrations of both SO2 and HF were maximum during winter and that of the TSP during summer. Year wisevariations in pollutant concentrations were not significant. The measu red maximum concentrations were 6.8, I 90 and 9 1 6 1.1g m-3 for HF, SO2 and TSP. For HF, 5 % of the 2-hourly concen-lation records exceeded 6 m3 andfor SO2only 2 % of the values exceeded 200 pig m-3-Concentrations of all the three pollutants were maximum at zone I situated close to the emission source.
