Abstract

Arsenite has been shown to inhibit many enzymes of different segments of metabolism. Arsenite especially inhibits pyruvate oxidase system and the phosphatases. Present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of sodium arsenite on phosphatases on exposure to sublethal concentration for the period of 24,48,72 and 96 hours. Activity levels of acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase decreased (p<0.05) in the various tissues to Tilapia when compared to controls.
