CADMIUM ACCUMULATION IN ABELMOSCHUS ESCULENTUS (L.) AND LYCOPERSICON ESCULENTUM (MILL) IN PRESENCE OF UNICONAZOLE

SHUBHRATA PUROHIT AND V.P. SINGH

Abstract

Unieonazole, a triazole derivative, reduced the accumulation of cadmium in different plant parts of two vegetable crops, A. esculentus and L. esculentum growing under cadmium stress conditions. Though the tissue concentration of cadmium, in both cases either uniconazole-treated or non-treated plants, increased with increasing the soil-Cd-concentration. The percentage protection by uniconazole against cadmium accumulation determined 59.8% and 65.1% respectively for A. esculentus and L. esculentum. The reduction of accumulated cadmium in unicunazolc-treated plants might be either associated with an increase in phytocbdatins (PC2, PC3 and PC4) and some anatomical changes or having ability to modify the rhizosphere.
