EFFECTIVE UTILISATION OF INDUSTRIAL WASTE-STEEL SLAG FOR ENHANCEMENT OF FLEXURAL BEHAVIOUR OF FERROCEMENT LAMINATES

J. SRIDHAR AND R.MALATHY

Abstract

In today’s world there is a need for conserving resources, environment and proper utilisation of energy. Hence, there is an emphasis on the use of waste and industrial by-products in construction industry. Recently the growing trends towards the use of supplementary materials are emphasised, for cement mortar because of scarcity of materials. The main objective of this investigation is to study the flexural behaviour of ferrocement laminates with partial replacement of fine aggregate by steel slag (by-product of steel industry) in mortar matrix. The variables considered in this study are type of mesh, volume fraction, and steel slag content of 0% to 50% by weight of fine aggregate. From the study maximum first crack load, maximum ultimate load was obtained for ferrocement laminates with 30% steel slag, volume fraction 2.348% in case of galvanised square weld mesh and 3.770% in case of chicken mesh.
