HEAVY METAL SORPTION FROM INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENTS BY FLYASH: A GROWING APPROACH TOWARDS SUSTAINIBILITY

Ahmad Ashfaq and R.K. Pathak

Abstract

Now a days, research is being conducted on application of waste materials in order to avoid an increasing toxic threat to the environment and to streamline present waste disposal techniques, by making them more affordable. The utilization of fly ash in construction, removal of organic compounds, heavy metals, dyes and zeolite synthesis can help a great deal in the reduction of environmental pollution. Studies on the utilization of low cost sorbents for removal of heavy metals from wastewaters are gaining attention. Instead of using commercial sorbents, researches have been experimenting fly ash for adsorption of NOx, SOx, organic compounds and cations, anions, dyes and other organic matters from waters and wastewaters. This work deals with investigation for the application of fly ash to remove heavy metal ions from dilute aqueous solutions.
