PATELAbstract The aqueous and alcoholic (2%) extracts of roots of Anacyclus pyrethrum (A. pyrethrum) exhibited in animals local anaesthetic activity of a longer duration than xylocaine (0.2%). In frog plexus anaesthesia guinea pig dermis and rabbit cornea, the herbal root preparation induced anaesthesia in 30 60 sec. and lasted 1-2 hours longer than xylocaine. This is the first primary study of local anaesthetic activity of this plant.
