BIODEGRADATION OF PHENOL IN A PACKED BED REACTOR USING PEAT MEDIA

G.V. KAVITHA AND SHAIK KHASIM BEEBI

Abstract

Phenols are well known components in many industrial effluents. Treatment of phenolic waste with Biological method is economical than conventional methods. In the present study an attempt has been made to biodegrade phenol by unacclimatised mixed microbial organisms in packed bed bioreactor. Results revealed that removal of phenol upto 40 ppm inlet concentrations was 100%. For 50 & 60 ppm inlet concentrations removal efficiencies were 99.82% and 97.02% respectively.
